Park City's Ted Ligety finally got his gold medal Wednesday, and the intensity of what spectators called his near flawless performance is captured in Salt Lake Tribune photographer Chris Detrick's awesome photos of the runs.
Detrick rented skis to shoot Ligety in the giant slalom, hiking up the mountain and later skiing down it with 65 pounds of camera gear.
That's the kind of effort Detrick is putting into shooting the Sochi Games — that something extra that resulted in this jubilant photo of Noelle Pikus-Pace celebrating with her family, and what will surely be a historic shot of Park City's Sarah Hendrickson in the moment before her first jump, which marked the start of the first-ever women's Olympic ski jumping competition.
