The first member of our reporting team departs today for Sochi, Russia, where the 2014 Winter Games get under way with the Opening Ceremony on Friday and continue through Feb. 23.

Already, though, you can find plenty of information about the Sochi Games at sltrib.com/olympics. The page will be updated virtually around the clock once the Games begin.

On the page — in addition to the latest news in dozens of enterprise and breaking stories by Michael C. Lewis, columns by Kurt Kragthorpe and photographs by Chris Detrick — you'll find a schedule, results and an up-to-date medal count.

You'll also find mini-profiles of 65 athletes with ties to Utah, 15 of whom are Utah natives.

Of those 15, five are considered serious gold medal contenders.

The Tribune's Olympics coverage plans are detailed in this column.

You also can follow coverage by Lewis and Kragthorpe in real time on Twitter. Follow Lewis @MCLTribune and Kragthorpe @tribkurt.
