(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Frank Bedolla drops off a turkey at the 13th Annual Latino Community Turkey Drive on Nov. 17, 2012. The Salt Lake Tribune) has begun to compile a list of businesses and nonprofit organizations collecting food, clothing and gifts for distribution to the needy this holiday season.
Salt Lake Tribune a resource for those looking to give back this holiday season

More than ever in the years following the Great Recession, charitable organizations emphasize the need to give year round because demand for the services they offer doesn’t diminish once the holidays are over.

Regardless, there’s little doubt many of these organizations also depend on holiday giving to build their coffers and to meet needs specific to the holiday season.

That’s why The Salt Lake Tribune this year as in years past will publish "Season of Giving," a weekly series highlighting Utah organizations and programs that serve those in need. The weekly series will begin Nov. 24 and run each Sunday through Dec. 22. Watch for it online and in the Utah section of the print edition.

In addition, we invite businesses and nonprofit groups collecting donations of food, clothing and gifts to send information to calendar@sltrib.com. The same goes for those seeking donations of specific services and volunteer time.

We will compile and continuously update a list readers can refer to as they seek out opportunities to give this holiday season.

That list is already available here.

Check back at sltrib.com periodically as new opportunities are added each week.
