State of the Debate
George Pyle
George Pyle has been a newspaper writer in Kansas, Utah, Upstate New York, and now Utah again, for more than 30 years - most of it as an editorial writer and columnist. Now on his second tour of duty on The Salt Lake Tribune Editorial Board, he has also done a stretch as a talk radio host, published a book on the ongoing flaws of U.S.agricultural policy and, in 1998, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Writing. His most active bookmarks are Andrew Sullivan, Christopher Hitchens and Tina Brown. And he still thinks the Internet can be used for intelligent conversation and uplifting ideas.

Today: — Obamacare gets blamed for everything — Dana Milbank | The Washington Post

WASHINGTON — Fox News’ Sean Hannity, that paragon of journalistic integrity, hosted six "average Americans" on his show this month who were "feeling the pain" of Obamacare.

One was Paul Cox, who runs a North Carolina construction business and complained that the new law prevented him from hiring full-time employees because he would have to provide health insurance to anybody working more than 30 hours a week....

"It’s happening all the time," Hannity contributed.

If by "it" Hannity meant "misinforming the American public," then, yes, it is happening all the time. ...

Sebelius should testify now — Deseret News Editorial

Kathleen Sebelius now says she will be happy to explain to Congress why the website the government set up to handle registrations under the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, has not worked and may be hopelessly inadequate. But the secretary of Health and Human Services says she will do so when her office and Congress can find a "mutually agreeable date." ...

... Arrogance is not a good tactic when members of both parties are demanding answers, and when some are openly calling for you to resign.

Sebelius owes candor for Obamacare stumbles — Dallas Morning News Editorial (This newspaper just dropped its paywall, so we’ll be looking in more often.)

President Barack Obama promised "the most transparent administration in history." The jury remains out on that.

He didn’t pledge the most technologically adept administration, but that seemed unnecessary. After Team Obama blew the digital doors off Republicans in consecutive elections, it was obvious, wasn’t it?

Apparently not. And the most curious irony is that these two issues are colliding in the most embarrassing way as the Obama administration tries to implement its signature domestic achievement, the Affordable Care Act. ...
