A Cottonwood Heights woman is accused of stabbing her husband and then trying — but failing —to clean up the evidence.
In charges filed Thursday, police wrote that the woman, 53, admitted to stabbing her husband in the abdomen Sept. 1 after he allegedly hit her in the face during a fight.
The woman told police that she drove her husband to the hospital for emergency surgery and then returned home to use vinegar to remove the blood from the carpet, investigators wrote.
Detectives searched the home and found a patch of clean carpet that smelled of vinegar. But blood stains remained on the floor and wall and in front of the washing machine and dryer, police wrote. A sponge soaked with red liquid was in the bathroom sink, and a knife was wrapped in a shirt on top of the dryer.
The woman was charged with second-degree felony aggravated assault and third-degree felony obstructing justice.
Assistant Cottonwood Heights police chief said the man was released from the hospital a couple of days after the stabbing and was expected to survive.
