Salt Lake Crawler
Glen Warchol
I've been a newspaperman for nearly three decades and have done hard time at United Press International; small dailies and nasty alternative newspapers, including the Observer in Dallas. In some bizarre convulsion of fate, I joined a few other twisted gentiles at the Deseret News for a few years. Along the way, I reproduced twice. I live in Salt Lake's historic refinery district with my current wife Mary Brown Malouf, another journalist. Now, I'm on a new adventure on the Internet-where the best things in life are (mostly) free.

Actress Katherine Heigl and her husband, musician Josh Kelley "fell in love with Utah" and are going to forsake LA for the Beehive. Heigl, a casual Mormon who once said she was too busy to practice her faith, has apparently been drawn to Utah: “It was a dream of Katie's for years. We got married out there and I just fell in love with it. It's amazing and one of my favorite places in the world.”

Buh-bye, Warren. Gov. Gary Herbert is shipping FLDS church leader Warren Jeffs back to Texas for trial before bringing him home for a possible re-trial on an overturned rape conviction in Utah.

Will they wear gimme caps? Gov. Gary Herbert and his opponent Salt Lake County mayor Peter Corroon will square off in their first debate today at Southern Utah University. They have promised to talk about cows, irrigatin', the price of overalls and other rural issues at what is being billed the "Rural Summit Debate."

Seems a fair turnabout. San Francisco gay activist Michael Petrelis sees it as his duty to "recruit new members to the tribe" whenever he sees pairs of Mormon missionaries. His latest targets are Mormon elders from Colorado and Alberta. "I asked the boys if I could recruit them into the homosexual lifestyle. They laughed and I snapped their photos. Regular Chatty Cathys, they were, replying to my prying questions."
