State Rep. Carl Wimmer, the same guy who once suggested Republicans cross-over vote in the Democratic primary to put an easy-to-beat candidate in the general election, is now turning his House seat into a cottage industry.
Wimmer, who is head of the Patrick Henry Caucus, is charging as much as $4,500 a pop to regurgitate states-rights blather far and wide. So far, the Herriman Republican only accepts money when he speaks out of state.
Wimmer's website markets him as having "absolute cutting-edge authority" on issues from immigration to socialism. Since Wimmer's day job is as a security consultant/body guard, perhaps he could make even more money with seminars on how to put hammerlocks on U.S. Census workers who come knocking.Apparently, Wimmer's time hanging out with the "Free (but-federally indicted) Capitalist" Rick Koerber is finally paying off.
“This is, Number One, a way I can make it so when I do go out and speak, my family is not suffering financially. … Secondly, it’s another source of income for me, which is clearly always something that is an advantage.”
House Speaker and fellow Republican David Clark says Wimmer's approach to making money from his House seat is unique in Utah.
“I am not aware of anyone in my 10 years at the Legislature who has tried to monetize their legislative position.”
