BYU freshman center Tejan Koroma has been cleared to play in Saturday's game against Virginia, but a couple of other starters are still questionable for the game due to nagging injuries, coach Bronco Mendenhall said Monday night in his weekly press briefing. Koroma's status was in question because he was ejected from Thursday's 33-25 win over Houston for allegedly throwing a punch. Replays show that the swing, which might have been to knock down a defender's arm, did not connect. "Tejan Koroma, his play was reviewed already," Mendenhall said. "So the Big 12 handled the replay, [they are] our officials' coalition, and they found no penalty, no sanctions, no inappropriate behavior, so he is cleared to play." Nose tackle Marques Johnson left the game with an ankle injury, while running back Algie Brown, linebacker Bronson Kaufusi and offensive lineman Brayden Kearsley did not play at all. Those three also have ankle issues. "So hopeful is the word I have been given for Algie, Bronson and Marques Johnson, which is somewhere between doubtful and probable. Hopeful is my word, because the official thing is probable and doubtful, so I added hopeful just on my own," Mendenhall said. Asked later about Kearsley, who injured his ankle in the last series against UConn, then tried to play in the 41-7 win over Texas, Mendenhall said: "I would put him in the hopeful category as well." Mendenhall was upbeat in his 11-plus minute chat with the media, saying several times that he really likes his team. "New week and it seems like we have a lot more time. So it is nice to have extra time, extra preparation. We had a good start to our practice tonight, and look forward to a really good game," he said. "…. Virginia is an improved team, and playing well, and we are a good team, and playing well, so man, I think it is going to be a great game. I am looking forward to it."
