Former BYU RB Harvey Unga signs with Jacksonville Jaguars

News on Saturday that the Jacksonville Jaguars had signed former BYU running back Harvey Unga was significant for several reasons.

Obviously, it is great news for Unga, who is back in the NFL after losing his on-again, off-again spot with the Chicago Bears in 2013.

For BYU, it means that the school has had a player on the roster of every team in the NFL. Jacksonville was the last holdout, until Saturday.

Unga rushed for 3,455 yards on 696 carries for BYU, scoring 36 touchdowns. He’s the school’s all-time leading rusher, although current Cougar Jamaal Williams certainly has that mark in his sights.

He spend his rookie season on injured reserve, then was picked up by the Bears again in 2012 and 2013. He has yet to play in a regular-season game in the NFL.

Unga tried out with the Carolina Panthers in May, but was not invited to camp.
