BYU TE Mahina, OL Fusi, make Mackey, Rimington watch lists
Another day, another college football watch list released. Or two. Or three.
Tuesday, BYU tight end Devin Mahina was one of 40 players named to the nominee list for the John Mackey Award, which goes to the country's top tight end.
BYU center Edward Fusi was named to the watch list for the Rimington Trophy (along with almost every starting center in the country, no fewer than 66).
Also, BYU quarterback Taysom Hill was one of 40 quarterbacks named to the watch list for the College Football Performance Awards QB of the Year Trophy.
A victim of BYU's glut at tight end his first few years, along with offensive coordinator Robert Anae's move away from using the tight end extensively, Mahina has made just 26 catches in his career, for 310 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Utah State's Wyatt Houston also made the list.<
It was the second-straight day for Hill to be named to a watch list. Monday, he was put on the Maxwell Award preseason watch list.
The CFPA QB Trophy's recipient is selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which the player increases the overall effectiveness of his team, according to a CFPA news release.
