Count the Jacksonville Jaguars among NFL teams with an interest in BYU's Kyle Van Noy. Van Noy is scheduled to visit Jacksonville this week, according to this report. Last week, the New England Patriots were in Provo to work out Van Noy on Thursday. The Detroit Lions apparently also have some interest. In his latest NFL mock draft (the draft is May 8-10 this year), ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. projects the Lions to take Van Noy with their second-round pick. Of course, that would reunite Van Noy with his good friend, Ziggy Ansah. The Lions took Ansah with the fifth pick of last year's draft. The Jaguars have pick No. 39 in the second round, and outside linebacker is one of the team's needs. ——————— Yesterday's blog included come of BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall's comments as spring ball wrapped up last Friday. Here are a few more: On the personality of the team that is emerging: "Obedient, hard-working. Hungry. Those three words are the ones I would use." Mendenhall on how much progress Taysom Hill has made:"Tons. He's delivering the ball timely, which means he has a lot better idea of when blitzes are coming, when coverages are changing, what the nature of the protection is, and because of that how fast the ball has to get out and to whom. So, just one more year in the system." Mendenhall on what is keeping him awake at night:"Deep snap. So we have players coming, but that can change the game. So I am not going to say that keeps me awake, but I toss and turn a little more than normal. I sleep on my left side rather than my right side, so I don't sleep as well." Mendenhall on what role the alumni play in the program:"The alumni, similar to what the recruits do. Recruits come in as the life blood, and the alumni remain the sustaining force, and they come in with the attitude — they want to be given hope as to what the program looks like, and they want to be able to support, but then many want to know what they can do and so if you are talking about sustainment, I love when I am asked, 'man, what can we do to help?' So that's a great reason to have them come. While the intent isn't to ask for anything, it is fun to have former players volunteer." Mendenhall on whether they developed the depth he wants and said they needed after the bowl game: "Closer. It will still take playing some to know that for sure. But we are going to play freshmen. And we are going to play them up to 22 plays a game, if they are close to being prepared. But that's going to be really important through the long haul. That's what I learned a year ago. So you might see their number of plays increase as the season goes, but at least the idea now isn't come in, be groomed, develop, redshirt, etc. It is come in and be groomed and developed and play."
