Looks like the number of high school and junior college football players who have committed to sign with BYU (or signed in December, ie Michael Shelton and Nick Kurtz) on Wednesday is up to 16. According to their Twitter accounts, Brighton High receiver/linebacker Isaiah Kaufusi and Alabama defensive tackle Jaterrius Gulley committed to BYU over the weekend. The players were on their official visits to BYU along with about a dozen other prospects when they made the commitments. Kaufusi is the cousin of BYU defensive end/outside linebacker Bronson Kaufusi and the nephew of defensive line coach Steve Kaufusi. His father, Jeff Kaufusi, played at the University of Utah. Isaiah Kaufusi is a 6-foot-2, 175-pounder who led Brighton in receiving with 29 catches, averaging more than 18 yards per catch. He helped the Bengals get to the Class 5A state championship game last fall. "Officially committed. Go Cougs," Kaufusi tweeted on Saturday. Gulley is a 6-foot-3, 325-pound nose guard from Hoover, Ala., who drew interest from BYU after he sent film out to dozens of programs around the country. He also had offers from Hawaii, Alabama-Birmingham, Troy and Southern Miss. He helped his Hoover High team win back-to-back Alabama 6A state titles. "I have decided to further my education and football career at Brigham Young university #BYU #99 #NG," Gulley tweeted on Saturday. Also over the weekend, BYU offered a scholarship to Cameron Scarlett, a running back from Central Catholic H.S. in Portland, Ore. Scarlett is a junior and a member of the 2015 signing class. He attends the same high school that produced BYU defensive back Dallin Leavitt, and Leavitt apparently told BYU coaches about the rising star. Scarlett's father, Paul, ran track for BYU in the 1980s. Cameron Scarlett told Scout.com that he now has offers from Oregon State, Washington State, BYU, UC Davis and Arizona State.
