A day after BYU announced it had lost junior cornerback Jordan Johnson to a season-ending ACL tear, the football program announced Tuesday that a couple other Cougars are also injured. Freshman defensive tackle Tuni Kanuch, who was competing with juco transfer Marques Johnson to be the starting nose tackle, suffered a torn pectoral muscle in his chest recently. An evaluation on Monday revealed the tear, and Kanuch will have surgery later this week. He is out for the season. Also Tuesday afternoon, BYU confirmed that freshman cornerback Dallin Leavitt, also in a battle to be the starting boundary corner, injured his hip in the morning practice. Leavitt was being evaluated Tuesday afternoon and BYU spokesperson Brett Pyne said the severity of the injury will not be known until Wednesday. When knews broke on Twitter of Leavitt's apparent injury, the freshman from Portland, Ore., replied that he was not injured. "I'm not even hurt," Leavitt wrote.
However, he deleted that tweet from his account a few hours later.
