Standout juco receiver Nick Kurtz commits to BYU

Nick Kurtz, the junior college wide receiver who was admonished publicly via Twitter by Wes Welker to not attend BYU apparently was not impressed by the NFL star's advice.

Kurtz, who caught 49 passes for 697 yards and 10 touchdowns last season at Grossmont (Calif.) Junior College, committed to BYU on Sunday.

"Officially committed to BYU! Couldn't be happier!!," Kurtz noted on his Twitter account Sunday afternoon.

The 6-foot-6 Kurtz was recruited heavily by BYU in hopes that he can eventually replace Cody Hoffman as the go-to option for sophomore quarterback Taysom Hill.

Kurtz also had offers from Oregon and Texas Tech, Welker's former school.

Kurtz is the second player to commit to BYU in two days.

Texas prep running back and defensive back Cedric Dale spent most of last week in Provo visiting the BYU campus and attending Saturday's open practice and scrimmage. Before he left, the 5-foot-8, 170-pound speedster from Hebron High in Lewisville, Texas committed to play for BYU.

Dale will sign in February of 2014. He also had offers from North Texas, Texas Tech, Nevada and Colorado State.

BYU now has 13 commitments from the class of 2014.
