BYU's Davies invited to NBA Combine, while Harward (back injury) calls it quits

A flurry of BYU basketball news broke on Thursday afternoon, some of it good, and some of it bad.

First, the good news:

Former BYU center Brandon Davies has been invited to participate in next week's NBA Draft Combine in Chicago.

While not exactly a surprise, given how he performed at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament last month, earning MVP honors, Davies was not a sure thing to make the list. So that's great news for the Provo High graduate, projected by some to be a late second-round pick in June's NBA Draft.

Here's the 60-player list, courtesy of Jeff Goodman and CBSSports.com. It should probably be noted that two of the best players in the West Coast Conference this past season -- SMC's Matthew Dellavedova and Gonzaga's Elias Harris -- did not get invitations.

Gonzaga's Kelly Olynyk, who is coming out early, did receive an invitation.

Also Thursday, BYU announced that big man Ian Harward will not be returning to the team for 2013-14.

You can read more about that here.

BYU's news release says Harward is giving up basketball completely due to lingering back issues from an injury he suffered last summer and will stay in school to complete his education at BYU.
