Looks like former BYU quarterback Max Hall will get another shot at professional football. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League signed Hall on Monday after releasing backup QB Alex Brink. The Bombers also signed former Rice QB Chase Clement on Monday, meaning they will have four QBs in camp. Hall and Clement will battle for the starting spot with veteran Buck Pierce and Justin Goltz. Pierce, for you trivia buffs, attended the same high school as current BYU receiver Cody Hoffman — Del Norte High in Crescent City, Calif. As for Hall, he was a student assistant coach at BYU last season, but the writing was on the wall that he would not return in 2013 when he was bypassed for the quarterbacks coach position, which went to former BYU QB Jason Beck. Hall signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent in 2010 and appeared in six games, staring in three games. He spent the 2011 season on injured reserve. At Winnipeg, Hall will be coached by former BYU coach Gary Crowton, who is the Blue Bombers' quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. ——————- It is official. The Lone Peak High basketball team that featured a bevy of future BYU Cougars is the 2012-13 high school national champion, at least according to MaxPreps.com. The website picked the Knights after Lone Peak rolled to the 5A state title last month. —————————— Several times this past season, BYU basketball coach Dave Rose lobbied to get his former coach at Houston, Guy Lewis, into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. That happened on Monday, as Lewis was selected for enshrinement. The coach, now 91, led Houston to five NCAA Final Four appearances and almost 600 wins during his 30 years as its head coach. He was the national coach of the year in 1968 and 1983.
