Once of the most unsung players on this year's BYU football team is boundary corner Preston Hadley, a transfer from Snow College who doesn't intercept passes an awful lot, but is as close to a shutdown corner as the Cougars have had in years. Friday, BYU landed a player it hopes can fill Hadley's shoes next year. Sam Lee, a 6-0, 180-pound corner from the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, Calif., committed to sign with BYU after visiting with coach Bronco Mendenhall in Provo on Friday morning. The returned missionary is from Gwynn Park, Maryland, and will have three years to play two. He also had interest from New Mexico, Texas State and Maryland. Lee's junior college coach is former BYU offensive lineman Garett Tujague (1989-91) ————— Still no word yet from either BYU or Utah State on when Wednesday's postponed game will be played. I've written this before, but I have serious doubts about whether the game will ever be played. Because they won't play during finals week next week, the teams would almost certainly have to play during their conference seasons, and I can't see either coach agreeing to do that. Christmas Eve is open, but that's probably not a possibility, either. And I don't think for a minute the Cougars want to play when students aren't on campus. Anyway, USU coach Stew Morrill was asked about rescheduling today. Here's his reply: "We haven't found [a date] yet. Both schools are working on that. As I've said, [BYU has] been great in this situation. It's just a dilemma right now with conference play around the corner and both of us having full schedules. Finals Week is next week and that was looked at. We're trying to look at all the options, but that's the stage we're in right now. We have not found a date that works yet."
