BYU football: Doman channels Tony Dungy; Chambers lands at Nebraska-Kearney

Looks like former BYU receiver/kick returner/defensive back O'Neill Chambers has found a home. The senior will play his final year of college football at Nebraska-Kearney, an NCAA Division II school with plays in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. Here's more from the newspaper that covers the "Lopers."

There was no media availability after BYU's practice today, so there won't be a practice report in this space, obviously. I wrote about the strange handling of Marcus Mathews, a tight end (and expected to possibly start at tight end) who is now practicing with the receivers, in this morning's paper.

Mathews says it is temporary, receivers coach Ben Cahoon says it might not be, and Bronco Mendenhall was still referring to Mathews as a tight end that last time he spoke to reporters. So who knows?

Moving on to a new topic, offensive coordinator Brandon Doman confirmed Wednesday that if all goes as planned, Mike Alisa will be the featured back in the BYU offense this season.

"Yeah I would suspect he will have at least 20 carries in the game on Thursday, and hopefully he will play great for us and merit those carries," Doman said.

Doman also spoke extensively Wednesday about the kind of season he expects senior quarterback Riley Nelson to have.

"We expect him to do everything the other senior quarterbacks have done," Doman said. "The expectations are high. We have a little phrase that says: expectations, execution, no excuses, no explanations. That comes from Tony Dungy. It is a great phrase for a senior quarterback here."

Doman said Nelson is up to the task.

"He is an ultra-confident guy, and he should be now. He played a lot last year. He's won several games now. He has come from behind to win some games. I think he has seen about everything in that regard.

He's just faster and stronger and smarter this year, so hopefully we will see more production from him this year."
