Nine months after proposing to BYU cheerleader Whitney Wonnacott, former Cougar basketball superstar Jimmer Fredette made it official on Friday morning, marrying the Littleton, Colo., native in the Denver LDS Temple.
Friday morning, Fredette acknowledged that it was the couple's big day, posting on Twitter: "Wedding Day today! Ready for the best day of my life with @whitwonnacott!"
Wonnacott graduated from BYU this spring with a degree in broadcast journalism and has been posting pictures of her wedding dress, wedding shoes and rehearsal dinner on Twitter the past few weeks.
She worked as an intern at Salt Lake City television station KSL and told the station recently that the wedding preparations were "crazy, but a lot of fun. ... I mean, it is stressful at times. There's a lot to think about, a lot going on."
Fredette said he first met Wonnacott his sophomore season at BYU, when she was a freshman. They met while at the NCAA Tournament in Philadelphia when the Cougars lost to Texas A&M.
He has said the couple rarely talks about basketball, although Wonnacott's father, Richard Wonnacott is described as a huge BYU fan. Fredette recently completed his rookie season in the NBA with the Sacramento Kings.
Fredette proposed last Aug. 26, surprising Wonnacott, who thought he would be away at a golf tournament and went to his Provo apartment to help his brother move a car.
