Former BYU QB John Beck signs with Houston Texans
Former BYU quarterback John Beck's NFL career has been taken off life support. Beck, who was released during last month's NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins, has agreed to a contract with the Houston Texans. The Texans' starter is Matt Schaub, and he's backed up by T.J. Yates. Beck will presumably compete with former Houston Cougars star Case Keenum, who signed with the Texans last month as an undrafted free agent. Beck was released after battling Rex Grossman last year to be the Redskins' starter. He played in four games, throwing two touchdown passes and four interceptions. Houston runs an offensive system very similar to the one Beck worked with under coach Mike Shanahan in Washington. BYU offensive coordinator Brandon Doman has been traveling the globe, it appears. Here's a story in Samoan newspaper about Doman's recruiting visit to the Pacific Islands. * BYU linebacker Brandon Ogletree has been named to the 2012 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List. Here's more on that from BYU football sports information. Attention Golfers: I am working on a project for the newspaper in which I will write about Utah's best golf deals. When you play a round of golf in Utah (public courses) where do you get the most bang for your buck? Which courses provide the best value, when green fees, condition of the course, scenery, etc., are taken into account? Also, which courses are too expensive and/or the biggest ripoffs? We might get into that as well. Send your ideas to me at email@example.com. I will probably publish some of the responses, so if you don't want to see your message in print, let me know that, too.
