Several BYU-related articles out there this morning, including this one in the Denver Post about former BYU coach Gary Crowton being interested in the Colorado State job. The Rams released coach Steve Fairchild earlier this week. Crowton was the offensive coordinator at Maryland this season, but told the Denver Post he's very interested in the CSU opening.
Of course, Crowton was BYU's coach from 2001-2004, compiling a 26-23 record after going 12-2 his first year.
Aside from being a member of the LDS Church, Jabari Parker doesn't have many ties to BYU. But the nation's top high school basketball player, who lists BYU as one of the schools he's considering (with a whole lot of others), is featured in this New York Times article.
The BYU basketball team (7-2) plays at Utah on Saturday. The Cougars will practice in the Marriott Center this afternoon around 2:30 p.m., after a short media availability session. Here's a notebook in today's paper, focusing on the emergence of freshman center Nate Austin.
And here's an interesting take on the kind of season Utah is having from Ken Pomeroy.
It is a slow week for BYU football news, but here's a quick note on BYU receiver Ross Apo making honorable mention on an all-freshman team.
Speaking of Nate Austin, here's Brock Zylstra's take on how the Lone Peak product has helped the team:
"That is what we know we can get from him, especially these last three games when he has come in. He has been great. Even though he has fouled quite a bit, that's just because he is playing hard. He knocks down shots, he gets rebounds. You always know that he is going to give 100 percent every time he gets on the floor."
