Fiitingly, Jackson Emery played one of his best games as a BYU Cougar on Tuesday night, as the school honored the senior captain with a tribute before the game.
Emery made five three-pointers and was 6-for-8 from the field en route to 17 points as the Cougars whipped TCU 83-67 in front of 16,170 at the Marriott Center.
BYU led by as many as 23 points before settling for the 16-point win.
"I was really happy with how we came out in the first five or eight minutes of that game after a bye," said coach Dave Rose. "Defensively, we were really engaged. I think they only scored two points in the first six or seven minutes. We guarded them hard, rebounded well and got off to a good start offensively."
BYU's balance was key, as all five starters reached double figures.
Jimmer Fredette led the way with 21 points (albeit on 6 for 16 shooting), while Noah Hartsock had 14, Brandon Davies 13 and Kyle Collinsworth 10.
"I felt like the rest of the guys reacted really well" to TCU's double-teaming of Fredette, Rose said.
Ronnie Moss had 27 points to lead the Frogs.
It was the second straight game in which all five starters have finished in double figures. All five played 30 minutes or more as Rose has significantly tightened his rotation the past few games.
Stephen Rogers added six points off the bench, and Charles Abouo two. No other subs scored as TCU's bench outscored BYU's bench 17-8.
"They are just a good shooting team," said TCU coach Jim Christian. "Jackson Emery is the most underrated player in the league, and he made some huge shots."
