Stop the hatin' That was TCU football coach Gary Patterson's message to BYU and Utah football fans in this morning's Mountain West Conference football coaches teleconference. The Cougars and Utes meet Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Rice-Eccles Stadium. "Just listening to all the things that I [hear] and read about both sides using the 'hate each other' [phrase], you hate to see that for college football," Patterson said. "I understand the competitive spirit, but the bottom line to it is it is still about student-athletes, and it is a great game. Hopefully, that rivalry will stay up, but it will be more about what's going on on the field than about what's going on off the field." Patterson also used the occasion to thank the Cougars and Utes for their contributions to Mountain West Conference football. "Both have done great jobs in the Mountain West, and will continue to win football games in their history," he said. "They have meant a lot to us, they have both been on the national scene, they both have good head coaches, they have great players, and they great fanbases. Obviously, in the Mountain West, it is a big loss for us to not have them be a part of what we are doing. But everybody does what they have to do to make sure their program is better. But we will miss both."- BYU junior running back Bryan Kariya has been named to the ESPN Academic All-America Second Team. The junior is also a two-time Academic All-Mountain West Conference recipient and MWC Scholar-Athlete. A Chinese major with a 3.87 GPA, Kariya was one of four running backs named to the first and second teams. Kariya is second on the team with 483 rushing yards through 11 games for a 43.9 yards-per-game average. Kariya has come on strong in conference play, averaging 66.2 ypg while helping BYU earn a 5-2 MWC record. - BYU just announced tonight's men's basketball game against Mississippi Valley State is still on. "Fans planning to attend the game are encouraged to be prudent in their travel and to heed weather advisories," the school said in a news release. The game will be televised live on BYUtv and online at http://www.BYUtv.org.
