BYU will play its first game as a football independent against the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss., according to multiple sources. The 2011 season-opener will reportedly be televised by ESPN, and the agreement does not call for the Rebels to make a return visit to Provo. Ole Miss becomes BYU's 11th football opponent for the 2011 season.

Ole Miss' athletic director Boone confirmed the agreement with a tweet five minutes ago.

The Rebels had an opening when its scheduled season-opener against Boise State was canceled so the Broncos could play Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Classic at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta next year. Ole Miss will meet Boise in the 2014 Chick-fil-A Classic.
