This the San Diego-based genre-bending band Slightly Stoopid's seventh summer-long tour, with this year's edition called the Kickin' Up Dust Tour featuring Atmosphere, The Grouch and Eligh, as well.

(Past tours have been dubbed names such as the Summer Haze Tour, Blazed and Confused Tour, and Legalize It Tour, giving you a hint about the collective's subtle views on marijuana usage.)

"The whole purpose of summer is to create a vibe for the fans," said Miles Doughty, guitarist, bassist and singer for the band that dabbles in reggae, dub, blues, folk in its own unique blender.

Doughty grew up three blocks from the famed, idyllic Ocean Beach in San Diego, and has rode a wave of laid-back success since high school, when Sublime's Brad Nowell signed them to his Skunk Records.

The band's ethic has remained the same: it's all about the music, without pretense or stage trickery. "What you see is what you get," Doughty said. "What we put on in the morning is what we wear onstage at night. We're beach kids."

But these beach kids are now having their own kids.

"When you're a young band, starting out, you just want to party," Doughty said. Now, if he gets two days off, he flies home — wearing what he puts on in the morning.
