J. Ryan Selberg, Principal Cello of the Utah Symphony, died at his home on Sunday, July 14, and the cause of death is not known at this time.
He was 66.
Keith Lockhart, the organization's music director from 1998 to 2009, will dedicate Wednesday's Utah Symphony performance at St. Mary's Church in Selberg's honor. Lockhart is in the area to conduct during the Symphony's Deer Valley Music Festival.
He joined Utah Symphony as Principal Cello in 1975, according to Pat Richards, chair if the USUO board. He also spent 14 years as a faculty member at the University of Utah.
Selberg was scheduled to perform a concerto on Aug. 7 as part of the Music Festival.
A page honoring his legacy with the USUO will be posted at http://www.utahsymphony.org/.
