Four pre-college students along with two collegiate musicians will share $11,000 in prize money awarded by Legacy Music Alliance to the winners of the 2013 Student Concerto Competition, which just concluded.

The winning students and their schools are: Ayden L. Olsen, clarinet, Farmington Jr. High School; Brandon Chamberlain, trumpet, Jordan High School; James Andrus, tuba, Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts; Neal Hillam, trumpet, Wasatch High School; Jenaye Renshaw, horn, Utah Valley University, and Carson Tueller, flute, Weber State University.

The top performers at the collegiate and high school levels will receive a $1,500 scholarship, and the junior high school winner will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to be used toward private lessons or an instrument upgrade.

Three of the Concerto Competition winners – Olsen, Chamberlain and Tueller – will also perform in concert with the Utah Wind Symphony March 28 at the Rose Wagner Center for the Performing Arts. Gaylen Rust, CEO of Legacy Music Alliance, said in a press release the competition was designed to "recognize the exceptional musical talent we have in Utah and encourage these young artists to continue their pursuit of excellence in the arts. Music is the heart and soul of education and the gateway to learning. By rewarding these talented students, we are reaffirming the importance of music as a lifelong tool."

Legacy Music Alliance was organized in 2010 as a non-profit association to bolster music education in the Intermountain West and increase Utah’s stature as a prominent national music education and resource center. The Legacy Music Alliance is headed by CEO Gaylen Rust, a Utah businessman. Dr.Craig Jessop, Dean of the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University and former Director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, is Chairman of the Executive Advisory Board.
