Mayor Ralph Becker, the City Council and Special Events Office are inviting event organizers to apply for sponsorship through the City's Signature Events Fund.

The Signature Events Fund, established by Mayor Becker and the Salt Lake City Council, is intended to financially support public events, both large and small, that provide significant economic and cultural contributions to Salt Lake City.

Last fiscal year, 30 different events received financial support from the Signature Event Fund in amounts ranging from $1,500 to $15,000. A total fund of $150,000 has been set aside this fiscal year for the program.Considerations for sponsorship are based on public and community benefit, economic impact, cultural and civic contribution, financial need and relationship to Salt Lake City's mission and goals.Organizations planning public events in Salt Lake City between April 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014 are encouraged to apply.

Applications are now being accepted and two page proposals are due to the Special Events Office no later than Thursday, March 7 at 5 p.m. Recipients will be selected by the City's Signature Events Fund Committee and notified by mid-March.More information can be found at http://www.slcgov.com/slcevents/slc-events-signature-events-fund.

I hope someone out there wants to plan a grunge festival. That genre needs to be resurrected. I am serious.
