Who knew there was such a thing as a flute choir?
The Running' Fl'UTES — a talented ensemble which recently represented the U's School of Music at the annual National Flute Association Conference in Las Vegas) will present its final fall semester concert on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
The concert will be peformed in the Dumke Recital Hall on the fourth floor of David Gardner Hall and is free. (Make a holiday music night of it by staying for the Sundays@7 Holiday Showcase concert — another free offering of the School of Music — which immediately follows.)
The Running' Fl'UTES is conducted by flutist and assistant professor Tiffany Sedgley, and combines the talents of nine U students majoring in flute performance or music education.
The flute choir is an auditioned ensemble; auditions are held in August and open to all University students who meet the audition requirements.
The December program will include Christmas selections along with standard flute choir repertoire.
The flute choir will be accompanied by student soloists Alicia Kim on flute, Virginia Jensen on harp, Melanie Addington on piccolo and Jaren Cragun on percussion. Selections to be performed include Vaughan Williams' "Fantasia on Greensleeves," Vivaldi's Concerto No. 3, "Pie Jesu" from Faure's Requiem, the African Noel Traditional Carol, and many more.
