Kingsfoil performs on Tuesday, Oct. 9.

Frankie Muniz, star of "Malcolm in the Middle," started out as a fan of this Pennsylvania-based pop-rock band.

Now he's the drummer.

"I'd much rather do this," said the 26-year-old Muniz, who has temporarily retired from acting and race-car driving to focus on music. Muniz and Kingsfoil share the same manager, so when the band's drummer left late last year, Muniz, who had played drums since he was 12, was asked to audition "I love being part of a group of guys all doing our thing to create [music]," said Muniz, whose thumb was ripped off during a race-car accident. Since he joined in March, the band has been opening for Third Eye Blind at college campuses around the country. Muniz hasn't been around his fiancée much and she "kind of hates me for it," he said. But Elycia Turnbow remains supportive, because "she knows it is something I really want."
