After initially canceling his Utah shows because of his commitments to his IFC series, comic and popular podcast host Marc Maron will perform two show in Salt Lake City after all. A
fter all, as avid listeners to his "WTF?" podcast can attest, he is fascinated with Mormons. "It’s an obsession that has grown over the years," Maron said in a phone interview. Ever since he first set foot inside the LDS Tabernacle when he was about 12, Salt Lake City and Temple Square have inspired "shock and awe" in Maron, who grew up Jewish. But don’t try to convert him. "I don’t believe in God, but I don’t feel the need to argue about it," he said. "I find self-described atheists annoying." Maron has plenty of new material to test out on the audience, and the famously, bitterly self-deprecating comic said the material is "good," although as he and his listeners know, "I don’t toot my own horn." Look for his IFC series, which he termed an "amplified" version of his life, to launch in about a year.
