spotlight show • The Kentucky-raised country singer has charted more than 30 singles on the Billboard country charts, including two No. 1 country singles of the year, including "I Swear" in 1994), but in a Tribune interview Montgomery said his great achievement was being a father. "Being as good of a father that I can be" is a goal he has set and placed on the top of his top-do list every year. "[The] judgement is still out ... think when you have children they grow up so fast it really punctuates how quick life can go by and how short it really is." That sentiment is reflected on his most recent album, appropriately called "Time Flies." "As [children] get older, you start noticing all the holidays seem to come around a lot quicker every year that goes by." Parenting and the music business involves skills he picked up the Bluegrass State. "Being born and raised in Kentucky allowed me access to lots of musicians and singers, especially since my dad and mom were musicians," he said. "[I was] around people that worked hard for everything they have, which like me back in those days, wasn’t very much, but you were proud of what you did have."
