Song of the Day: Rage Against the Machine's 'The Ghost of Tom Joad'

For about a month now, I have been asking scores of musicians what they first concerts were, for a future story. (Go ahead, scoop me.)

My first concert was relatively late in life. It was Lollapalloza 1993, and besides Tool, Arrested Development, Fishbone, Alice in Chains and Primus, there was the best band of that particular hot in Indio, California, Rage Against the Machine. They opened the entire day, and no one came close to matching their intensity, and it was quite impressive to a 16-year-old.

The band didn't play this song that day, but it remains the best cover of a Springsteen song ever. Listen to Tom Morello's guitar mimicking the sound of menacing chopper blades:

And how 'bout both? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-c6GphpAeY
