Dustin Lance Black will be the Grand Marshal for this year's Utah Pride Parade on Sunday, June 3.
Black will also be honored alongside Valerie Larabee, State Senator (and the Democrat's choice for Salt Lake County Mayor) Ben McAdams, and the Tribune's own Pat Bagley at the Pride Festival's Grand Marshal Reception on Friday, June 1, at the Leonardo. Headlining the Festival this year: Prince Poppycock, Frenchie Davis, and Kristine W. They on Festival grounds in Washington Square Park.
Black is best known for his Academy Award-winning original screenplay for the film "Milk." Black grew up in a devout Mormon military household. Larabee is executive director of the Utah Pride Center and served in the United States Air Force under the regime of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
Bagley's father was a three-term mayor and served his LDS mission in Bolivia, and then graduated from BYU. It was at BYU that Bagley penned his first political cartoon. Bagley has been our paper's political cartoonist since the late 1970s. Frenchie Davis was a top finalist on both "The Voice" and "American Idol," and Prince Poppycock found popularity as a contestant on "America's Got Talent." Kristine W has had 9 consecutive Billboard No. 1 Club Hits and her hits include "Feel What You Want," "Wonder of it All," "Save My Soul," and "Stronger."
