Despite the departure of Sublime founding drummer Bud Gaugh, Sublime With Rome is alive and well, thanks to super-drummer and Long Beach native Josh Freese (formerly of Nine Inch Nails, Guns N’ Roses and Weezer) filling in on the skins for this tour.
Bud Wilson, who founded the Long Beach ska-punk band Sublime with Gaugh and the late Bradley Nowell, is still on board, with Rome, 23, the new lead singer.
Gaugh has gone public with his dissatisfaction with the addition of Rome, but Rome was gracious in an interview with The Tribune.
"He’s taking some time off," Rome said of Gaugh. "He’ll always have our support."
Rome is currently working on his first solo album, requested by the record label after his collaboration with the Dirty Heads on the single "Lay Me Down" became a hit. In the meantime, Rome is touring and planning a set that will predominantly feature Nowell compositions, as well as four to five songs from the band’s 2011 album "Yours Truly." Rome said he loves singing songs such as "What I Got" and "Wrong Way," a soundtrack to his childhood: "I used to [sing those] for free."
Everlast and Uniphi are also on the bill.
