Report from L.A.'s Grammy Week: A Wednesday at USC. Go Utes!

On Wednesday, I will be leaving the small Ventura County burg of Camarillo to go to the University of Southern Caifornia, the home of Tommy Trohan, to attend Grammy Camp in the morning and then a gala called "Grammy in the Schools Live!" in the evening.

Grammy Camp begins at 8:30 a.m., so although Camarillo is only about 50 or 60 miles away from USC, I will be starting my drive shortly after 6 a.m. to brave the L.A. traffic on Highway 101 and the Harbor Freeway.

I am looking forward to te evening gala. It was just announced that last year's surprise Grammy winner for Best New Artist, Esperanza Spalding, will perform, in addition to current GRAMMY nominee Terri Lyne Carrington and GRAMMY-winning artist Anthony Hamilton.

Those acts will perform, as well as talented high-school students enrolled in the Grammy Camp, which provides a week-long opportunity for students to learn and interact with veterans of the music industry.

I plan on blogging about tomorrow's all-day activities from the heart of the Grammy celebrations.

I must admit that as a Stanford grad and with my mother and sister UCLA grads, I don't have a fondness for USC, but hey, magic happens in Hollywood (or at least the L.A. ghetto).
