The Westminster College Chamber Orchestra is holding auditions for the 2012 Spring Semester.

Auditions are open to the public and will take place Jan. 9 – 30.

All instruments are welcome to audition and basic instrumental proficiency is expected.

At the auditions, individuals will be asked to perform the following: 1) One major scale of your choice, three octaves (memorized); 2) one minor scale appropriate to your instrument chosen by the conductor, two octaves (memorized); 3) a prepared solo piece that represents your best playing. If your piece requires an accompanist you will need to make your own arrangements for one to be present at your audition. Please bring an extra photocopy of the score of your prepared piece; 4) sight reading of excerpts from the orchestral repertoire.

The orchestra rehearses Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. in the Rehearsal/Recording Studio in the Jewett Center for the Performing Arts on the Westminster College campus.

This semester, the Chamber Orchestra will perform Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony, Mozart's "Bassoon Concerto" (with Westminster faculty and Utah Symphony member Lori Wike), and pieces by Rossini and Charles Ives.

To reserve an audition time, email Dr. Brandon Derfler at bderfler@westminstercollege.edu.

Audition results will be made known by Jan. 31.
