Beware of fake restaurant reviewers

Just a reminder to Utah restaurant owners, managers and wait staff: when The Salt Lake Tribune restaurant reviewers come to dine, you'll never know it. They won't tell you who they are and they'll definitely pay for their food and leave you a tip.

And, I guarantee they won't be rude and draw attention to themselves. (Even though it's a myth that films like Disney's "Ratatouille" likes to perpetuate)

I'm saying this because every few months imposters dine at Utah restaurants, claiming to work for The Tribune. Sometimes they demand free food, often times they are rude.

According to an email we received yesterday, it happened again on Feb. 7 to a server at P.F. Chang's in Salt Lake City. Here's part of the email sent in by the server's spouse.

"To whom it may concern,

Recently a writer for the SL tribune and his guest enjoyed a meal at PF Chang's in Salt Lake City. While dining at the establishment, your staff member received nothing but exceptional service provided by a member of the PF Chang's team. This writer was rude to the server during his entire visit to the restaurant. Upon his departure, he left the following message for his server scribbled on the back of his receipt, "Yo, I am paid to be an asshole, sorry Have a Great
night you are an awesome server!" It was signed, "The Writer from SLTribune".

Our apologies to the server!

And to the liar who left the note: remember 'what goes around comes around.' Also, you might want to read The Tribune more often. Then you'd know we never review chain restaurants.

Reader comments on sltrib.com are the opinions of the writer, not The Salt Lake Tribune. We will delete comments containing obscenities, personal attacks and inappropriate or offensive remarks. Flagrant or repeat violators will be banned. If you see an objectionable comment, click the red "Flag" link below it. See more about comments here.
