The next generation of the Dunford family — the ones who brought Utah chocolate donut fame — has started a new cocoa venture.
Mike Dunford and his wife Lizzy are owners of Cocoa Metro Dark Drinking Chocolate. The gourmet chocolate milk is sold in Whole Foods stores and specialty markets in New York, Washington D.C., Connecticut, Virginia, Pennsylvania and other eastern locales.
Recently, the product was launched in northern Utah. Bottles are available in Salt Lake City at Liberty Heights Fresh and Dan’s on Foothill Drive. It’s also available at the Macey’s Grocery Store, Sandy and Fresh Market in Holladay. Quarts costs $6 to $7 depending on the location.
Dunford, whose grandfather founded Dunford Bakery, said Cocoa Metro is made in small batches using minimal ingredients: premium Belgian chocolate, two-percent milk sourced from local dairies, evaporated cane juice, vanilla and a natural thickener called carrageenan.
In Utah, Cocoa Metro is using milk from the Rosehill Dairy in Hyrum. For those in Box Elder, Cache, Davis, Morgan and Weber counties, Cocoa Metro is available through Rosehill’s home delivery service.
