Ogden native and Brigham Young University graduate Kelsey Nixon kicks off her third season as the host of "Kelsey Essentials" on The Cooking Channel.
The show, which premieres Saturday, Feb. 4, offers a fresh take on cooking basics. (Check listings for time.)
Nixon gives tips on must-have pantry items, the latest gadgets and kitchen techniques such as roasting, baking, and knife skills. During the premiere, Nixon — who was a fan favorite during the 4th season of "The Next Food Network Star" — talks about butchering and demonstrates how to make chicken fried steak with spiced milk gravy; sausage, shrimp and peppers over cheesy grits and braised greens.
