Utah state liquor stores will close Saturday, Dec. 24 at 6 p.m. and won't open again until Tuesday, Dec. 27.
But residents in need of high-octane beer on Monday, Dec. 26 (the official state holiday) will be able to buy it at Epic Brewing in downtown Salt Lake City.
Epic owners recently opened a small panini shop inside the brewery, at 825 S. State, in hopes of taking advantage a loop hole in the state liquor laws. The provision allows Utah breweries and distilleries to sell their products any day of the week as long as food also is available.
Starting in January, Epic will keep the eatery open seven days a week, which means imbibers also will be able to buy the micro-brewed beer on Sundays.
Epic is following in the footsteps of the High West Distillery in Park City, which earlier this year opened its restaurant on Sundays and holidays so it could sell its rye whiskeys and vodkas.
Here are Epic's holiday hours:
Saturday, Dec. 24, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Monday, Dec. 26, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day
Regular hours starting Tuesday, Jan. 2:
Monday–Thursday: 11 a.m. –9 p.m.
Fridays and Saturdays: 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Sundays: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
