Real Salt Lake coach Jason Kreis flew to England to meet with Manchester City and New York City FC officials about becoming the expansion club's new coach, according to a new Sports Illustrated report.

SI.com reported Thursday that Kreis, who is out of contract with RSL at the end of this season, made the trip earlier this month.

A team spokesman said interest from other clubs is not surprising.

"Why wouldn't other teams — future and existing — approach us and attempt to emulate what we've built? " RSL communications VP Trey Fitzgerald said. "We have an attractive on-field identity, a togetherness off-the-field and a collective ethos that celebrates team above all else."

Kreis has said contract negotiations with RSL are ongoing and his focus is on the team's chase for a Supporters Shield.
