Pumpkin vs. Pontiac: The video
This is an archived article that was published on sltrib.com in 2010, and information in the article may be outdated. It is provided only for personal research purposes and may not be reprinted.

There's no great morality play here, no inspirational message, no good reason to watch other than the fact that it's just really, really cool.

This is what happens when an 1,169-pound pumpkin (this year's state record) is dropped from a 175-foot-high crane onto a Pontiac 6000 — which is what happened recently at Pleasant Grove's Hee Haw Farms.

The Tribune's Francisco Kjolseth captured the action on video. If you need a smile on your Monday, look no further.

Kjolseth reports the pumpkin — grown by Matt McConkie of Mountain Green — reached a speed of 67 mph in its 3.1-second journey to its oblivion.
