In what must have been the toughest three hours of his broadcasting career, KSL radio host Doug Wright went back on the air this morning — the first time since his son, Eric, died on Aug. 28.

Wright was welcomed with condolence calls and good wishes from his listeners, confirming Wright's self-assurances that he could return to the airwaves because "i knew that I'm among friends."

Wright's voice broke slightly a few times during his broadcast, but he was able to smile and chuckle when thinking fondly about his son, Eric, who was killed falling from a roof in Washington, D.C., where he had just started a political internship.

Wright's feelings were just below the surface, and bubbled up occasionally when tackling the news topic of the day: A Florida pastor's plans for an "international Burn the Koran Day" on Saturday, the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The story, Wright said, "makes me want to weep, as if I haven't wept enought this week."

The Hinckley Institute of Politics at the University of Utah has created a scholarship fund in Eric Wright's honor. Go to the website if you're interested in donating money.
