Plans for the weekend: Last throes of summer

• The Soldier Hollow Classic sheep-dog trials, a competition for working dogs, run today through Monday at Soldier Hollow Resort in Midway (here's a map). The event runs 'til 5:30 today, and from around 8 a.m. to around 6 p.m. each day this weekend (check schedule for details). Tickets are $12 for adults, $7 for kids (6-15), today, Saturday and Sunday; $15 for adults, $7 for kids (6-15) on Monday; at the gates or online (passes and other discounts also available).

• Bluegrass/folk-rock band The Avett Brothers (pictured) play tonight at Deer Valley, 2250 Deer Valley Drive, Park City. Opening act: Gov't Mule. Show starts at 6. Tickets are $40, at SmithsTix.

• Mope-rock band Junius performs tonight at Kilby Court, 741 S. Kilby Court (330 West), Salt Lake City. Opening acts: Orbs and Ayin. Show starts at 7. Tickets are $10, at 24Tix.

• Rap duo New Boyz perform tonight at The Rail Event Center, 235 N. 500 West, Salt Lake City. Show starts at 7:30. Tickets are $20, at the door.

• Real Salt Lake returns home Saturday to face the New York Red Bulls, at Rio Tinto Stadium, 9300 S. State St., Sandy. Game starts at 7 p.m. Tickets available at the Rio Tinto website.

• Russian rock band Mumiy Troll performs Saturday at The Urban Lounge, 241 E. 500 South, Salt Lake City. Show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $15, at SmithsTix and 24Tix.

• Soul singer Jamie Lidell, who opened for Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings in the Twilight Concert Series last month, returns Monday to play The Urban Lounge, 241 E. 500 South, Salt Lake City. Opening act: (The) Tony Castles. Show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $13 in advance, $15 on the day of show, at SmithsTix and 24Tix.
