Future of Utah QB Wilson still unknown

Spoke to JoMarie Wilson this morning, the mother of Utah quarterback Travis Wilson.

Utah fans have been asking a lot about the status of the sophomore quarterback, who was sidelined late in the season when concussion exams revealed he had an intracranial arterial condition that is threatening to end his collegiate career.

Wilson and his parents have consulted with doctors at Utah as well as UCLA, but the family still doesn't know if he'll be able to return to the sport, JoMarie Wilson said.

"No one can tell us anything yet," she said.

She added the family should have an answer at the end of February when more exams are performed.

The Utes are scheduled to start spring practice March 18.

If Wilson can return, he'll assume his role as the starting quarterback, although no position is ever guaranteed, coach Kyle Whittingham said recently.

If Wilson can't return, his backup Adam Schulz and freshmen Conner Manning and Brandon Cox are expected to be the favorites vying for the starting role.

Wilson, 7-9 as a starter, finished the year 133-of-237 for 1,827 yards and 16 touchdowns with 16 interceptions in nine games.

TV time

Former Ute Zane Beadles might be busy getting ready for the Super Bowl, but he still had time to make a guest appearance on the Ellen Show, where he talked football with the host and picked up a donation for his charity.

You can check out the six-minute clip here.

It's no surprise that Beadles is making such a positive impact off the field. During his time at Utah (2005-2009) he created a reputation for being not only a special player but person. Nice to see him being recognized for his efforts.
