Backups get more reps for Utah's defense

The latest depth chart is out for the Utes and it features a few interesting moves on the defense. Freshman Justin Thomas has been one of the surprises of camp and is listed ahead of JC transfer Davion Orphey at corner. At strong safety, Tyron Morris-Edwards is listed ahead of Quade Chappuis. Utah coach Kyle Whittingham has been extremely complimentary of Morris-Edwards during camp. He played in nine games last year and had 16 tackles, but looks like he'll be a much bigger factor this year. Injuries have sidelined several starters, giving some backups such as Thretton Palamo at left end, Hunter Dimick at right end and linebackers Jared Norris and Jacoby Hale increased reps. The Utes have also moved lineman Daniel Nielson from offense to defense. Of those, it will be interesting to see how Palamo develops. The former rugby star joined the Utes as a running back but was moved to defense prior to the 2012 season. He has played mainly on special teams, but now with Trevor Reilly recovering from ACL surgery, he has a good chance to get a lot of reps and improve. - Lya Wodraska
