Aaron Roderick has flip-flopped again. Roderick, Utah's passing game coordinator, has decided to stay at Utah a day after it was announced he'd accepted a position at BYU. Roderick had a similar change of heart in 2009 when he left the Utes for Washington but returned less than two weeks later. Roderick, who was a receiver at BYU in 1997-98, said he realized he'd made a mistake and on Thursday morning he asked Utah coach Kyle Whittingham if he could remain on staff. "The main thing is I realized how much I love Utah," Roderick said. "The response from my players yesterday was overwhelming when they heard I was leaving. I was touched by the way players reacted and realized how much I love Utah." Roderick said Wednesday's events weren't construed as a way to pry a raise from the Utes. "I didn't use it for leverage or anything like that," he said. "I just realized how much I love Utah." Roderick has been with the Utes since 2005, serving as a receivers coach, co-offensive coordinator and passing game coordinator. "Aaron has been a valuable member of our coaching staff for the past eight years and is an excellent coach and recruiter," Whittingham said in a release. "We are pleased he chose to stay with us." The Utes still have a position to fill since defensive line coach Chad Kauha'aha'a left to join Gary Andersen at Wisconsin. Whittingham said there is no timeline on hiring a replacement. "There is still a lot going on as far as gathering information and seeing what assistant coaches are available," he said. "The emphasis right now is on recruiting." - Lya Wodraska
