Signing day arrives for some JC transfers

Wednesday marks the first day mid-year transfers can sign with prospective schools and for one tight end, Greg Reese out of Arizona Western College, the day can't come soon enough. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Reese, who committed in October, said he plans to sign as soon as he can. "I'm ready to get to Salt Lake," he said. "I'm excited about the opportunity to play college football at that level and being around the coaches and just getting back to playing football." Reese, who didn't play in 2012, plans to study marine biology. Utah might seem like an odd place to take up that major, but Reese was impressed with Utah's College of Science in addition to the football program. "Getting up there is going to be huge," he said. "I know they have some other great tight ends but I want to come in and try to earn a starting spot so the biggest thing for me is to be able to get up there and start competing." Others who have committed to Utah who could sign early are receiver Andre Lewis out of Diablo Valley College, offensive lineman Andrew Albers out of Orange Coast Community College and Davion Orphey, a corner out of Santa Ana Community College. The signing period is open until Jan. 15. High school recruits can sign starting Feb. 6. Another player the Utes were recruiting has decided West Virginia is the place for him. Arizona Western linebacker D'Vante Henry, who visited Utah in November, said Tuesday he plans to sign with West Virginia. Henry said he thought he could fit in well with West Virginia's scheme and had a good visit. "I liked the Utah program but I felt comfortable at West Virginia," he said. - Lya Wodraska
