Utah's football team isn't the only squad hitting the road this weekend. Utah's men's basketball team is headed down to Arizona for a private scrimmage Saturday against the Wildcats. The scrimmage was set up with the Wildcats before the Pac-10 announcement came, but Utah basketball coach Jim Boylen said he doesn't have any misgivings about heading south to play the Wildcats. "Our stuff is so heavily scouted now and so heavily prepared, next year they will have 10-12-14 games on us," he said. "We aren't showing our hand and they don't feel that way either. Both of us are just trying to get better and we need to be challenged." The teams will play two 16-minute scrimmages then work in some situational, late-game scenarios. The reserves will also play a game. In the past Utah has had private scrimmages with Colorado. Teams can hold either two public exhibition games or have one private scrimmage and one exhibition game. Boylen understands fans might feel shorted a chance to see the Utes play, but said the value of a scrimmage was too important. "We need to see how we do under pressure against somebody," he said. "We need to see if what we have been working on transfers to playing to someone else and we need to have some more grit and toughness. We have been playing hard and practicing hard, but we need to get tougher and see what areas we need to work on. A scrimmage is going to expose that." The Wildcats should be a good challenge for the Utes since they were picked to finish second behind Washington in the preseason Pac-10 poll. The matchup with Arizona came about because Arizona coach Sean Miller heard of Utah's previous scrimmages with Colorado. "We have a good relationship and it gives us an opportunity to work on things together," Boylen said. "We decided to do it before we changed leagues. They were going to come here next year which they won't but I'm glad he stuck with it this year and hopefully he is too." Utah's lone exhibition is Nov. 5 against Adams State at 7 p.m.
